Sometimes, kittens arrive at the shelter without a momma cat to nurse them. This is a serious situation. Depending on how old the kitten, outcomes vary.

Briggs' bio

Briggs is a handsome, loving ginger cat. He is a firm believer in the kitten adage, 'if it moves, pounce on it!' He spent a good amount of his time at my house running, chasing, attacking and wrestling with his brothers. But what stood out about Briggs is his cuddly, affectionate nature. He loves spending time on a lap or stretched out luxuriously beside me on the bed. You can easily carry on a conversation with Briggs. Whenever I spoke to him he answered right back. When I spoke baby talk to him he purred. He also enjoyed a stuffed mouse upon occasion. He was often seen carrying one around and guarding it from his brothers. By the end of the day there was usually a little pile of stuffed mice accumulated next to Briggs' food bowl. If you want a playful, loving, interactive snuggle-buddy Briggs is the cat for you!

Spats' Bio

Spats is a beautiful black kitten with a white star on his chest and a few random white toes. The toes were what immediately drew me to him. They are so cute and whimsical and he wears them well. Darling Spats excelled in all things kitten: he played with anything that moved, he cuddled with warm abandon, he enthusiastically partook in the stalk, attack and wrestle game with his kitten brothers. Of the three litter mates I fostered, Spats was the only one that seemed comfortable lying by himself in a prime spot of real estate. That tells me that he has the capacity to take good care of himself and not be unduly dramatic if he's left to his own devices upon occasion. Take Spats home with you, I think you will be quite happy with his mix of fun, affection and self-reliance.

Stevie, Briggs and Spats

Stevie, Briggs and Spats are my current foster kittens. (As I write this, lying here in my bed, Briggs is purring and circling on my chest. Stevie is draped across my right foot. Spats is off somewhere investigating who-knows-what. Briggs finally settled down on my right shoulder with his nose pressed against my lips. Spats appeared and is now on the pillow directly to my left chewing lovingly on my fingers.) I am a foster mom for the Houston SPCA and I have had a constant stream of Foster kittens rotating through my care for the past two years. I have had Stevie since ... and Briggs and Spats since ... I normally don't foster more than one litter at a time bit this little group is a special case. Most of my Fosters are recently weaned six week old kittens. They stay with me for a couple of weeks until they are at least 8 weeks old and weigh at least 2 pounds. That is when they are officially big/old enough to be spayed or neutered.
